Nursing Home Negligence – Fall Resulting In Death
We represented the family of an elderly woman who was admitted to a nursing home for care and treatment of persistent weakness, confusion, and complications arising from a severe urinary tract infection. On her second day in the facility, she suffered a fall resulting in broken hip and head trauma ultimately leading to her death. Once our firm was retained, we obtained all of the medical records and consulted our experts. Through investigation we discovered that the nursing home staff failed to properly assess the patient's risk of falling and implement available fall precautions. We pursued a medical malpractice claim against the nursing home for wrongful death alleging that nursing home staff were negligent in their failure to assess the patient's fall risk and implement fall precautions that would've likely prevented the fall and saved her life. The case was settled at mediation for a confidential amount.
